Isola Bella and Rocca di Angera lit up for the AIRC’s Nastro Rosa campaign
Isola Bella and Rocca di Angera are tinged with pink throughout the month of October, participating in the Nastro Rosa campaign of the AIRC Foundation for Cancer Research to create awareness among the public and to show support and solidarity for women affected by breast tumours. The symbol of the campaign is an incomplete pink ribbon, not forgetting the true objective: to achieve the concrete result of treatment for all those who find themselves facing the most widespread neoplasia among women. Breast cancer affects one woman in nine during their lifetimes, with around 53,000 new diagnoses in Italy in 2019 alone (data from AIOM, AIRTUM, Fondazione AIOM and PASSI, cancer numbers in Italy 2019).
The two properties of Terre Borromeo will be lit up starting from the evening of Thursday 1 October, creating a powerful scenic effect thanks to the mirror reflections on the surface of Lago Maggiore. Furthermore, for those who wish to make a donation to support the treatment and prevention project, pin badges with the pink ribbon of the AIRC are also available in the Bookshops of Isola Bella, Isola Madre, Rocca di Angera and Parco Pallavicino and at the Il Vicolo shop located in the old town of Isola Bella.
Vitaliano Borromeo states: “We are proud to support the initiative of the AIRC Foundation for the second year running. With the wish that a symbolic gesture such as the turning on of the pink lights on Isola Bella and at the castle of Angera will encourage the participation of a public that is increasingly widespread and aware in this important campaign of support for scientific research”.
