The hobby that was brought back to health at the Parco Pallavicino takes flight in the Piana di Fondotoce

Another rescue with a happy ending with the contribution of Parco Pallavicino. On 8 June a hobby that had been handed over to the CRAS [Recovery Centre for Wild Animals] of San Bernardino by the provincial police last August has been released at the Piana di Fondotoce, in the Municipality of Verbania. The bird had a fractured right wing.
The hobby is a migratory species that winters in Africa south of the Equator: for this reason, it was not considered useful to release it last autumn. The decision was therefore made to keep it over winter in an aviary until the time for the return migration of these wild birds.
The hawk was kept in the bird tunnel in Parco Pallavicino for a number of days before its release, in order to improve its muscle tone and to assess its full functional recovery. The operation was successfully concluded when the small bird of prey took off on a long flight. This was met with great satisfaction by the biologists and experts of the natural oasis of Terre Borromeo, who are constantly committed to caring for wild animals and to reintroducing them into their natural habitat.
