The Parco Pallavicino “family” is extended
Harmony, care and passion for nature lie at the heart of the recent happy events at the Parco Pallavicino. Two tiny kangaroos were seen popping their heads out of their mother’s pouch in March in the area set aside for this species, whose reproduction is particularly complex with a very short gestation and a period of 280 days in the protective pocket. In the coming days it will be possible to determine the sex of the two new arrivals, to define whether to assign a blue and/or a pink bow and consequently a name to each of them.
Back in early June, on the other hand, the Patagonian mara and six fallow deer – two dapple-grey and four white – were born. While just yesterday the farm in the Parco Pallavicino saw the arrival of two new goat twins.
The natural and wildlife context has also been enriched by new specimens of hens, whose names say it all: Parco Pallavicino welcomes the “cornuta di Caltanissetta”, one of the most ancient Italian breeds, documented since Greek and Roman times, the “Sicilian crowned hen”, probably the most ancient in Europe, deriving from Asian breeds, and finally the very special “Pekin Bantam”, selected with tens of different colourations. It is said that in China this breed was the exclusive property of the emperor.
